Gaming has become such an integral part of people’s lives in the new millennium. Jane McGonigal, talks about pioneering research on the impact of gaming on important aspects of our lives. She refers to a study done at Oxford University, which claims that people who played Tetris within six hours of experiencing a traumatic event could minimize the possibility of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and flashbacks. Playing Tetris within six hours of any traumatic event supposedly blocks your brain from forming visual memories that lead to flashbacks. Current gaming studies, however, are controversial because they remain behind academic firewalls. McGonigal calls for them to be opened to broader public scrutiny.
