Austerity measures in Spain have brought tens of thousands of youth out onto the streets in protest. In an emulation of Egypt's Tahrir square demonstration, thousands of young Spaniards have set up camp in Puerta del Sol, the central square in Madrid where spontaneous protests began a week ago. Demonstrations are also taking place in other parts of Spain. Demonstrators say they will stay there at least until the country's upcoming local elections.
The Spanish government is implementing austerity measures against a backdrop of record unemployment, which stands at 22.5% overall. Spain's youth, amongst whom, the unemployment rate is much higher at almost 45%, are demanding change.
Al Jazeera's Inside Story interviews Olga Munoz a protestor in Madrid, David Gareth Walters, professor of Spanish Studies at Swansea University and Gustavo Aristegui, MP from the main opposition party in Spain.
